Years after a successful cover video posted to YouTube, prominent alums of NBC’s The Voice Taryn Papa and Josh Gallagher have re-teamed up for some mind-melting harmonies on their rendition of “Mercy.” The Shawn Mendes cover is effortlessly stripped down and country-fied by the powerful vocalists in the brand new official recording releasing tomorrow, Friday, August 26th to all DSPs.
Since being posted to Taryn’s YouTube, the video has garnered tens of thousands of views and a growing demand for a streamable version. “After 5 years of releasing the video, we still get requests to release this song as a single to ‘jam in my car’,” Taryn said. The former Team Blake star felt it was a no-brainer to pair with former Team Adam contestant, Josh Gallagher. “I have always loved how our voices blend,” she said. “We started our music careers in Nashville as solo artists but enjoyed co-fronting pop-up shows together.” In a full circle moment, Taryn shared she is, “happy and excited to finally get this track out there.”
For the artists, this felt like the opportune time to gift fans a little surprise. Taryn has been building up her repertoire this year with the release of great new singles and viral social media attention. Her latest single “Can’t Catch My Heart” relays a common theme in her new music – love. The songstress recently got engaged to her long-distance love, making for plenty of new songwriting material. Josh has also been actively growing his career with millions of streams and a recent deal with Kobalt Music Publishing. Though the pair have since advanced their careers in separate ways, it’s clear the creative chemistry is still alive and well with this amazing cover. As they say – it’s better late than never!
