There are songs, and then there are SONGS. Tyler Farr’s new single, “Our Town,” is a SONG. I downloaded “Our Town” on my way to work and put it on repeat the rest of the way. The first time I heard it, I got chills. I played it for my friend and she said, “Are you trying to make me cry?!” It’s that good… Written by Seth Ennis, Liz Rose, and Nathan Chapman, “Our Town” comes to life with Farr’s distinct voice.
Ennis wrote on his Instagram, “I had the privilege to be in the writing room with the amazing Liz Rose and Nathan Chapman on the special day we felt/wrote this after the tragedy in Dallas.” “Our Town” pulls at the heartstrings, yet has an element that fires you up as well. It is an all American song that discusses the pains we have been going through as a country.
“We played cops & robbers in the streets around our house. It was fun and games back then, but it ain’t funny now – here in our town. Just a bunch of kids skippin’ church and acting so cool, but now we’re lighting candles on a Friday afternoon – here in our town.”
Farr continues with saying “the world that’s gone crazy, it don’t have a place here in our town.” He sings of what does have a place, love – not hate and American pride. It makes me want to live in a simpler time where love is stronger than anything else. “Our Town” gives hope for a crazy world. It makes you believe if you fight for that life, you can have it.
“We were raised in the shadows of crosses and flags. When we pledge allegiance we take off our hats, here in our town. We say yes ma’am and no ma’am. We love, we don’t hate. The world that’s gone crazy, it don’t have a place here in our town. Here in our town. We’re better than this, tougher than tough. We might get knocked down, but we get back up.”
We are tougher than we think we are. We can get back up and make it through another day. Show love and respect to one another. Imagine the changes that could happen – one town at a time.
