There is nothing contrived or orchestrated about The Cadillac Three. The first time I heard them and more so the first time I saw them live, I felt like I was taking a step back in time (gonna show my age here!). The flavor of this trio seems steeped in old school southern rock and folk. The Cadillac Three describe their sound as Country Fuzz. Their sound reminds me very much of one of my favorite drinks, the Kentucky Mule…ultra refreshing, smooth, bold, edgy and just a pinch of sweetness. These guys, Jaren Johnston (vocals/guitar), Kelby Ray (bass guitar/Dobro/acoustic guitar/vocals) and Neil Mason (drums/vocals) must have some older souls’ spirits running thru their veins along with a shot of whiskey. If you thought country music was all about tailgates, mudding, love gone bad, and a bottle of Firefly, well you ain’t heard nothing. This is the edgier side of country with its roots reminiscent of the likes of The Outlaws, Skynard and ZZ Top. These guys are musicians, vocalists, songwriters and have their hands in all areas of their music while currently working with Big Machine Records and Scott Borchetta. But don’t for one minute think that The Cadillac Three is just grit. Jaren has written cuts for Dierks Bentley, Sara Evans, Keith Urban and Jake Owen.
It is amazing that the sounds off “Party Like You” come from three guys. This is a powerhouse song that won’t have you doing anything less than some head bobbing, foot stomping, toe tapping, shoulder shaking. You might even feel inclined to tip one or two back back while you slide yourself off that barstool cos you can’t help but move to “Party Like You“. From the first note through the last and all the lyrics in between, The Cadillac Three exhibit masterful, badass musical skills in the single, that keeps at a feverish pitch. Lyrically, “Party Like You” is fun and dirty and not taking itself too seriously. Musically, instrumentally, The Cadillac Three’s “Party Like You” shows off their raw intensity, their unique style and their authentic enthusiasm. Y’all better take a listen and join the party.
