SINGLE REVIEW: Scotty McCreery “Southern Belle”

‘Have mercy!’ No, this isn’t Uncle Jesse’s song (think Full House TV show), but it might make you think Beach Boys – minus the sand.

Twanging guitar and banjo strings open “Southern Belle”, the latest from Scotty McCreery.

“Somewhere down south, there’s a swinging screen door

Sundressed beauty on a hot front porch

Knocking one back, baby, oh my Lord, have mercy

Shooting out gravel, saying “oh, my stars”

She’s Dukes of Hazzard in her daddy’s car

Amazing Grace in a Mason jar, have mercy”

Following Top Ten hits “See You Tonight” and “Feelin’ It“, Scotty’s newest single, co-written by Jason Saenz and Sean McConnell, is perfect for those dreamy, carefree summer nights.

“Saturday night with the red lipstick

Just like Scarlett,

she’s gone with the wind

Sunday morning with the honey biscuits, have mercy”

The song, produced by Frank Rogers, is the first from his upcoming third studio album on 19/Interscope Records/Mercury Nashville. Scotty remains true to his roots, with a fun new sound.

“You can go around the block, ‘round the town, ‘round the world

But there’s nothing like a down home girl”

  1. So Not true to his roots. Love Scotty but This song is closer to rap beat than country. Very disappointed as Scotty claimed to make a true Country album this time.

  2. Love this new McCreery song. Definitely country but also modern – it’s a fun, summer song – perfect for when you’re in the car driving or when you’re hanging with friends on the beach. McCreery’s voice is awesome on this song. Way to go McCreery!!
