Dylan Scott recently did a 6 part video series intended to lead up to a big announcement. Well, I should really say announcements! He revealed a new single “My Girl”, an album release date of August 12, and sweetly introduced fans to his girl, Blair. And as if that wasn’t enough to keep fans talking, they got married a few days later!
“My Girl” is a song that was inspired by the now Mrs. Scott. We immediately learn the simple things he loves about her; such as the way she talks to her mom on the phone and how she raps to an Eminem song (which is subtly followed by a laugh as he says “yeah that’s my girl.) You can picture him singing it with a big smile on his face, just shaking his head. The lyrics to “My Girl” are clearly full of pride for the woman that she is.
“Every night when she goes to bed, she hits her knees & bows her head, thanks the Lord for another day. I just thank Him for my girl. Yeah, that’s my girl in the passenger seat, windows down, dancin’ around causing a scene. That’s my girl sipping Crown & Sprite in a ball cap turned back.”
Scott goes on to sing about how she’s making all of the guys wish they were with her. But he knows they don’t see the things that make her extra special, like he does. They don’t see her in the things that he sees her in…
“(Yeah that’s my girl ) In my truck, in the songs that I sing with the radio up. (My girl) In my heart, in my soul, in the air that I breathe every day (That’s my girl), yeah everything.”
“My Girl” is a song that, I believe, will take Scott’s career to the next level. It is heartfelt, genuine and well written. Also, any song that starts off with “she looks so pretty with no makeup on” is a winner in my book. And that voice… That amazing Dylan Scott voice.
