The 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards nominees were announced last week. As we’ve come to expect with country award nominations, the ladies are often overlooked. Reba spoke out in regards to the all male Entertainer of the Year category. “It doesn’t make me very happy because we’ve got some very talented women who are out there working their butts off. I’m missing my girlfriends on this.”
Unfortunately this doesn’t only apply to award nominations. We see this in the country radio industry as well. There were hopes for a change after “Tomato-gate” a few years ago, but sadly that faded away after time.
I often see posts on social media regarding the lack of female acceptance in country music. The number one response is “Well, they should write better music.” It didn’t take me long at all to find the following comments on an article referring to Reba’s comment.
I did find some support, which was refreshing.
I could sit here and go on & on, but I’ll spare you… Instead, we’ve come up with a “Ladies of Country” playlist to show you exactly why Country Radio and country awards shows should include these extremely talented women. It took me about 10 minutes to create this playlist, and I stopped at 40 songs. FORTY! Don’t tell me the talent isn’t out there…
