When Kenny Chesney started thinking about how to kick off his The Big Revival Tour, which boasts almost two dozen NFL stadiums and a handful of festivals, he knew he wanted something that mattered, something that spoke to who he is and where he was going. After careful consideration, the 8-time Entertainer of the Year decided there was only one way to go: Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Tickets to this kick-off show go on sale next Friday, Jan. 23 at 10a.m.
“This has been an amazing year,” the man The Wall Street Journal deemed “The King of the Road” says, “in terms of the music we made, the songs written, the adventures had and especially what’s gone into this tour! So many people have contributed, and I thought by starting off where so many of them live, they can see what we’ve built before I take it out on the road!”
For Chesney, the Music City play also happens to fall on his birthday. Not that he was planning on making his road show – considered by many to be the summer’s ultimate party – the ultimate celebration. But he admits:
“You know, when you’re playing where everybody lives – and they know it’s a party, well, all kinds of people show up! So with the kinds of friends I have, who knows what kind of music we’ll be making before the night’s done.
“I just know that after a year and a half off, I’m so ready to get out there and make new music, to see the fans and hear them sing these songs back to us! I’m especially charged to hear the new songs, because, well, that’s part of why I recorded the ones that made the record.”
With multiple week #1 “American Kids” marking Chesney’s 25th chart-topper and “Til It’s Gone” poised to hit the top slot on Billboard Country Singles Chart, The Big Revival hit a sweet spot with Chesney’s fans. In addition to the album track “Flora-Bama,” which anchored a 40,000+ beach concert in August and CMT Special, Revival also features the free spirited female celebrating “Wild Child,” featuring Grace Potter, and the almost bluegrass gospel of “Don’t It,” with Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski.
Chesney’s arena shows will feature Jake Owen and Chase Rice, while the stadium dates will have a shifting line-up of many of country’s biggest names including Jason Aldean, Eric Church and Brantley Gilbert. Mostly, though, they will feature several of the new songs, some favorites that haven’t been played in a while and some surprises guaranteed to make people smile.
“Just like making this record, we had time to really get creative about the show. Some of the most creative people I know were thinking about stage design, lights, video screens – even what the set list is going to be! After all this time, when we hit the stage, we’re gonna be all out. And I’m so glad we can kick it off in Nashville where so many of my friends are.”
