Juggling quarantine and new releases isn’t easy, but pop-country artist Bailey Hefley sure makes it look it! We got to spend a moment with the rising star as she gears up for even more new music and rides the success of her latest single “Gotta Find Out.” Check out our chat with Bailey Hefley below!
Hi Bailey, how have you been?
Hi! I’ve been great. Thanks for asking. It’s a weird time for all of us, but I’m making the most of the positives like an unprecedented amount of time with my siblings as adults.
How are you staying inspired during quarantine?
I have been going on walks outside, and with less traffic even in busier parts of Nashville that has been very peaceful and usually gets the ideas flowing.
You’ve released some amazing songs this summer, what is your process for choosing what songs ultimately become singles?
Thank you for saying that! That’s an amazing question. I like for each group of songs to feel like a family of music. For me, they need to tell a story together, so if a song doesn’t fit the group then I won’t include it. It’s all part of the ride to me, and ultimately I’m just here to create a feeling for others and the songs feeling cohesive has always been something I appreciate as a fan so I wanna give that to my listeners. Beyond that, I like to step outside of myself and pretend I’m simeone hearing the song for the first time and listen in that imaginary role to see how the song makes me feel when I hear it and how many times I wanna hit repeat. If I, as the imaginary fan, wanna listen in the car for a week straight then I may have something. I also have a few people I trust for opinions, including my mom, so I will play it for them and get a true outsiders perspective.
What was the inspiration behind your current single, “Gotta Find Out?”
I was thinking about how we need to leave the past behind us in dating and just dive head first into a new person and potential relationship or we may miss out on great opportunities by over analyzing and being scared. Gotta Find Out is an ode to positivity in dating and in life and how I think we should all strive to live—with a healthy amount of skepticism and a big dose of blind faith.
What has been your biggest source of positivity during the last 6 months?
Well this is the perfect follow-up question to that!
I have been finding time to call friends and staying connected over social media has been amazing. I’m a very extroverted person so being alone is hard for long periods is difficult for me, but thankfully I haven’t had to be alone much since I spent most of the official quarantine period on my parents’ farm with my younger siblings. Also, I’ve been journaling more than ever to relieve stress and that has been a huge help for me. The journaling has also been fueling my songwriting.
Have you been working on new music? Anything you can tell us about it?
I have been writing non-stop. That has been the biggest savior for me in this time. I hope we all have something we love that we can do during this worldwide downtime.
I would love to tell you so much, but that would ruin the surprise 😉
I cannot wait for you to hear it.
Though everything is up in the air, how do you plan to close out the rest of 2020? What’s next?
I am continuing to release music off my current project, and looking forward to more family time during the holidays. I’ll also be doing more live-streams from Facebook and Instagram.
