We had a chance to interview Abi & get to know her a little better.
Abi: I discovered my love for music and performance in the form of musical theatre—a format I adore dearly. I credit my time spent on a stage during that time to how comfortable and passionate I am about performing now. I began in music theatre at the young age of 6 and it was apparent quite quickly that I was in love with music—the icing on the cake was definitely pushing it further and beginning to write and record, both around age 12.
Got Country:. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Abi: I grew up in Texas, and I definitely have that musical culture I lived in to thank for giving me such a fiery passion for country. I grew up listening to Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Keith Urban, and further solidified my love when I discovered Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings. I moved to L.A. as a pre-teen and discovered all different kinds of genres that really inspired me to listen to anything and everything. I think as a musician, it’s important to be familiar with great works of all genres—you can be inspired by any sound, lyric, you name it – regardless of the genre.
Abi: Extroverted, Outspoken, and Optimistic!
Got Country: What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
Abi: I used to take ballet, and dabbled in jazz as well as hip-hop! And I absolutely sucked! I am genuinely the worst dancer. I had a ballet teacher come to one of my singing shows and she said, “I’m happy you can sing better than you can dance!” So, yeah, not my calling in life!
Got Country: What is one of your favorite moments while performing?
Abi: I think one of my favorite moments in a show is performing a ballad and the audience putting their iPhone flashlights on. Whether it’s my concert or I’m simply in the crowd, it’s just a moment that makes me tear up. It’s such an emotional and harmonious thing to me.
Got Country: Name something on your personal and professional bucket list.
Abi: Personal, I am a big traveler! I’ve never been to Asia and it’s an absolute dream of mine to visit Japan when the Cherry Blossoms are blooming. Professionally, I adore touring with all my being—my biggest bucket list item will definitely be when I am able to do my own headlining tour.
Got Country: What is the best piece of advice you have been given? What advice would you give other females coming into the music industry?
Abi: I think the best piece of advice, and a bit of my general life mantra comes from my dad. He always asked me “how are you going to change the world??” and I’m so thankful to have grown up knowing it’s okay to dream big. In fact, you should dream big! I think this applies to all outlets of life. To females specifically, I think we all have to continuously strive to be the most genuine versions of ourselves. Find what inspires you, say what you want to say and not what you think others want to hear. Nothing resonates more with a listener, myself included, than raw emotion and genuineness.
Got Country: What are you looking forward to most in the next year?
Abi: Continuously releasing new music, working on more music, and hopefully getting out on the road!
Got Country: What do you enjoy doing on your days off?
Abi: I am quite the homebody, so I love a good day off spent at home cuddling with my pup Romeo. If I’m itching to go out, I usually grab coffee with friends or a good lunch—but I take advantage of my nights at home for sure.
Got Country: Tell us about your single “A Day Without.”
Abi: “A Day Without” is so incredibly special to me—it’s a beautifully written song, and it helped me cope and heal through the loss of my father. The thing I love about music so deeply is how therapeutic and emotion-provoking it is. I can only hope this song will resonate with other’s like it did for me.
Got Country: What are the best ways fans can follow along with your career?
Abi: I try to be super active on my socials! My Instagram is @abimusic and my twitter is @abiannmusic. I adore social media for the intimate relationships I can build with others, so feel free to send me a DM and I’ll probably talk your ear off!
