Q&A:
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. How have the last few months been treating you?
It’s been a little hectic with a lot of songs to get recorded and finish, but this is a brand new year and I’m making resolutions and I’m gonna stick to them.
You released some amazing singles in 2022, what was your decision process when it came to when and what to release?
Well with, “The Miracle Season” around the holidays I wanted people to ask and believe for miracles. I put that out around the time Demar Hamlin collapsed on live television in the middle of a game. People worldwide were praying and a miracle happened. Miracles are needed all year long every day somewhere.
Was there a specific moment or event that inspired your single, “Let’s Go”?
My dad used to say it and he meant business. He’d say, “the bus is leaving, let’s go.” Whether it’s a project at work or a game or walking out the door to do something fun, whatever it is, it’s what life’s about. Let’s go, let’s do it.
When writing, where does the inspiration come from and how quickly do the songs form from there?
Just now doing this interview, one thought led to another and all the sudden I have a song idea. I just wrote it down which was a tip that came from my producer in L.A. I used to think it was funny but it’s so real and helpful to write everything down.
You had a very special Christmas Day performing the National Anthem at the Cardinals and Buccaneers NFL game. What was that moment like?
Well, first of all the Cardinals were so fun and wonderful, I’m a big fan of their quarterback, who is from Oklahoma and J.J watt, who is the greatest of all time had a monster game that day. Their fans were so fun and so encouraging to me and I love that stadium. “The Star-Spangled Banner” represents Americans who gave their very lives for our freedom so it was an honor to perform. I love Phoenix and I got to spend my Christmas in 74-degree weather with palm trees. I can’t wait to go back.
Surely this has to be a nerve-wracking moment in a packed stadium. What do you do to cope with nerves?
That’s a funny question because I definitely had to deal with this. First of all, when you’re looking at 80,000 people looking at you, you have to start controlling your mind. I just told myself, to be brave and thought of all the brave soldiers, men and women, who have to focus in life and death, real-life situations every day at work.
This is just one of the major sports venues you performed in. Is there a certain venue you’d love to play someday? Have you ever seen the show there?
The brand new Sofi stadium in L.A. It’s so fascinating to me. It’s beautiful. I love L.A.
You know, I had my song, “L.A’s Calling My Name” and I passed by it actually, but I haven’t been in it and it’s not too far from L.A.X. but the iconic Hollywood park was there. I wish I could have gone back in the day. People like Frank Sinatra and other movie stars hung out at that racetrack. Those were the golden days. Not to mention I’m a big fan of the L.A. Rams and their quarterback Baker Mayfield.
With the new year upon us are there any plans shake shaping up for 2023 already?
Yes, I plan on releasing lots of great new music this year. I’m also already thinking of lyrics for the next Christmas song that I’m going record with my Nashville producers with possibly even a larger project!
