Long time Got Country friend Filmore has finally released his first full length album. I’ve been following him since 2014, so I’m pretty dang excited about this! The album, State I’m In, was produced by Zach Abend & boasts 18 tracks. I’m all for big albums like this! Several of the tracks had already been released over the past year or so, there are many brand new tunes.
Filmore goes in guns blazing with the first track, “New to This.” Whether this is a small town anthem, or a track that perfectly depicts his musical journey, fans of all backgrounds will love it. It honestly sounds like it should be the soundtrack to an incredible action movie trailer.
“We ain’t new to this, new to this. You don’t know how long that we all’ve been doin’ this, doin’ this. A band of misfits is where we fit. And this raise it up, it’s in our blood. This burn it down is where we’re from. When you’re born with it, you ain’t losin’ it.”
While every single track is great, I’ll highlight just a few others…
The title track, “State I’m In,” is all about trying, and failing, to outrun heartache & the memories that come along with it.
“Tennessee or L.A., Can’t outrun your memory. Every single place I’ve been. Can’t stop lookin’ in the rear-view. Don’t know where I am without you. Baby, that’s the state I’m in.”
“Other Girl” is the sweetest love song written for his “one in 6 billion love” fiancé Paige.
“…And I knew when you changed my life, overnight. You’re my saving grace, more than worth the wait. My one in 6 billion love in this crazy world. Now that we got each other girl, I don’t need no other girl.”
I’d love to have been a fly on the wall the day “Nothing’s Better” was written. I can only imagine the stories that were told in that writing room, you know back before days of writes happening over Zoom. (ahhh, the good ole days.) This is one of those songs you do not want to hear if you’re the ex.
“No more of you calling and checking up on me. And it feels so good, feels so good (I’m telling you). Nothing’s better than us not together.”
“Me Lately” was released a while ago, but it’s still one of my favorite Filmore songs. In quite a turn from “Nothing’s Better,” “Me Lately” sings of the man he’s turned into because of the woman in his life.
“Crazy lucky that you found me when you did. Baby, you saved me. You see me, you take me. Make me who I never thought I could be. Yeah, I’m loving me lately.”
