With Halloween right around the corner, Melanie was excited to take the chance to expand on her pop-country sound. “’Voodoo Doll’ is one I wrote with Big Machine artist Daniel Smalley – we wanted something a little swampy and a little creepy,” she said. “The studio guys as well as producer Michael Funk did a great job of bringing that vibe to life. I think it’s definitely an appropriate October single – really gets you in the Halloween feels while singing about this guy who is a sweet talker but just plays with this girl’s emotions whenever he feels like it.”
The clever take on a familiar storyline highlights Melanie’s songwriting prowess that has been expertly shaped over her time in Nashville. The release is a great sign of what’s to come as we close out the year. Surely there is plenty more headed our way from Melanie in 2022.
