Back before the world went crazy, I was lucky enough to attend THE writer’s round of all writer’s rounds at The Listening Room in Nashville. It’s not really a secret that I want to be best friends with songwriting Queen Nicolle Galyon. (I mean, just take a look at her Insta!) Last February I saw her name on The Listening Room calendar and immediately bought a ticket. The round also included Josh Osborne (freaking legend – think of hits from Sam Hunt, Old Dominion, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, the list goes on and on…), Jimmy Robbins (another incredible writer!), and this guy named Derek Austin. He made it known that he knew what was he was “up against” on that stage. But you know what? He MORE than held his own with the powerhouse lineup of Nashville songwriters. I remember texting my friend, and country artist, Cale Dodds that night & asking if he knew this Derek Austin guy because he is incredible.
Fast forward to this week… I got an email about a new song from an up and coming artist Derek Austin. I quickly responded that I would be happy to get a post up & explained that I’ve seen him perform and he was great. So, here we are.
Austin has released “You Go Girl.” The track was co-produced by Jimmy Robbins and Jonathan Singleton. Robbins said, “I feel so lucky to get to work with Derek Austin. He’s talented, humble, and hard working. “You Go Girl” is a hit, and I can’t wait for the world to hear it.” I totally agree, Jimmy!
One of my very favorite things with songwriting is when the meaning of the song title is totally different than you’d expect. “You Go Girl” does just that! Give it a listen and let us know what you think!
