With the holiday season around the corner, esteemed GRAMMY-nominated American Idol alum Danny Gokey is getting into the spirit with the release of his new album The Greatest Gift: A Christmas Collection today (Oct. 25, 2019). Pairing Christmas classics alongside original songs, the album is full of favorite tunes and familiar voices. Featuring Kari Jobe, Natalie Grant and fellow American Idol alum David Archuleta, the album has a blend of nostalgic and fresh tracks offering something for all listeners. Gokey worked with Dove award-winning and GRAMMY-nominated songwriter and producer Hank Bentley on this album, and also features tracks penned by renowned songwriter and producer David Foster, GRAMMY-award winner Ben Glover, acclaimed producer Colby Wedgeworth (Zach Williams) and more.
On the inspiration behind The Greatest Gift: A Christmas Collection, Gokey explains, “I love putting a new spin on old Christmas classics, so this project was fun for me in that sense, but the true meaning for this season of hope is my inspiration for this project! Christmas centers around the greatest gift the world has ever known, the birth of a savior. To quote one of our new originals, ‘We were hopeless, looking for an answer / Until You / Love came down and changed our story / Every heart was waiting / Until You.’ That’s what it’s all about for me.”
The album will kick off the holiday season and launch Gokey’s Celebrate Christmas Tour with Natalie Grant beginning in Colorado Springs, CO on Dec. 4 and continuing until Christmas. The tour marks the fourth year that the pair will hit the road for the holidays, but this will be his first trek to the West Coast. Tickets are available now at CelebrateChristmasTour.com.
When he’s not performing on the Celebrate Christmas Tour this winter, Gokey plans to celebrate the season with his family including their newest addition, his fourth son, Emmanuel, born in August of this year. “Christmas is my favorite time of year,” Gokey shared about his joys of the holiday season, “Partly because of the music, and partly because of the change of atmosphere that it invokes. There’s such a sense of generosity, kindness and love that prevails and everything seems hopeful and full of joy!”
