Cale Dodds has served up another “double” from his debut album. Dodds is taking a different approach to the typical album release. Instead of releasing the entire thing at once, he’s dropping two songs at a time. His initial release in September included “All Over” and “Lying.” This release includes a re-make of fan favorite “People Watching;” and newcomer “Out of My System.”
Dodds released an EP titled “People Watching” in early 2016. This new version sounds similar, yet very different at the same time. The song is a play on the words “people watching.” During a night out on the town, the couple that stars in the song has everyone watching them, because of the girl.
We’re just two people lost in love / we’re just two people watching people watching us / watching us dance / people watching us move / everybody all across the room is watching you and me showing out tonight
I first heard “Out of My System” at CMA Fest earlier this year. I was excited to hear it when I downloaded the “double” last night. “Out of My System” is about what you experience after a break up from a bad relationship that you can’t quite let go of.
My heart and my head know what it is I need to do / but it’s too hard to let go, when I’m still holdin’ on to you
They’ve tried to get back together, it hasn’t worked. The song is clearly all about needing to get the girl out of his system, and finally moving past the break up. The intensity of the song builds during the chorus and pulls you right in.
I think I need a detox / more than just a few days off / I wanna, but I can’t stop / nobody to blame, it’s all my fault that / I can’t you out of my system, long enough for me to forget ya / gotta get ya / out of my system
I’ll be honest and say that I can’t decide which version of “People Watching” I like better. They are both really good! I do know that “Out of My System” will be on repeat for the foreseeable future. Download the “double” now! Check out the video below and let us know what you think!
