Our artist feature for today is a little different than what we typically do. If you haven’t heard of him, allow me to introduce you to WARINER. He is a self proclaimed “redneck remix master & DJ.” I love seeing artists blaze their own trail, and that’s exactly what Wariner has been doing. While he’s a songwriter & producer, he came across my radar because of his remixes of country songs. Today (5.7.20) he dropped his remix of Dustin Lynch‘s “Mama’s House,” (see below) so it seemed like the perfect time to share my interview with WARINER.
Got Country: When you began remixing, would you just remix songs and then get them out?
WARINER: So my remix journey is pretty interesting. Before I started working with country artists, I was doing remixes for pop singers and rock bands. Generally, I’d reach out to them to see if they would be interested in having me make a remix of their tracks pro bono. Most of them said yes, because of the value I was offering for no monetary compensation. It wasn’t until I made a remix of Dustin Lynch’s “Good Girl” that everything really pivoted for me as a remix artist. Still, even now I find songs I love, remix them, then put them out for my fans and the artists to hear!
GC: How long was it until artists were coming to you for remixes?
WARINER: That actually happened a lot more quickly than I imagined. After putting out my remix of “Good Girl,” Dustin Lynch’s videographer hit me up and asked me to make a few more, and eventually one of them was used in his vlog. After that, his team reached out and asked if I would be interested in making remixes alongside his producer, Zach Crowell, to be used on his tour with Thomas Rhett, so of course I said yes! Since then, I’ve had a slew of artists and their teams reach out to me asking for remixes, and a full list of those can be found on my website – warinermusic.com.
GC: How have things changed for you as artists have begun using & sharing your remixes?
WARINER: The doors that have opened for me since this all blew up has been nothing short of incredible. Just a few years ago I was listening to many of these artists on the radio and trying to figure out how I could ever get a chance to meet them, and today I’ve got a bunch of their phone numbers hahaha. It’s absolutely surreal to see how many people dig what I do, and it’s allowed me the ability to make music full time as a career. Seeing people I’ve never met enjoying my work is a high that I hope doesn’t go away anytime soon.
GC: Anything else you’d like to add?
WARINER: Stay tuned on my socials, as I’ve got some interesting plans for 2020, including some original music. Thanks again for the opportunity to speak with you, it’s been a pleasure!
Thank YOU, WARINER, for your time and the awesome interview. Check out some of his work below & be sure to follow his socials for more to come!
