ARTIST FEATURE: J. Antonette

First up in our “Quarantine 2020 Artist Feature” is J. Antonette. She came across my radar recently & I was super impressed! The vocals… The production… The lyrics… It’s all good.

She’s proudly dubbed herself the “controversial girl next door.” She stated the following when asked what that means, “I’ve been asked what the “Controversial Girl Next-Door” in my profile means. So here it goes: Humans are complexed. Some have the need to place others in a box with a label in order to process them. A label can’t encompass every part of our multi faceted personality. You don’t know someone’s depth or views by a label. We are not all or nothing. We are not one or the other. Personally, I’m authentic, grounded, I’m traditional in one sense and very non traditional in another. I’d say I’m a overall “good girl”, yet also have been on the naughty list a time or two. I’m blunt, brutally honest, have a temper, and I’m not afraid of confrontation. Why do these negative attributes make me less of the wholesome good person? I’m normal. It’s the idea that is incorrect. Truth: Few years ago I shaved half my head for fashion. I loved it, I felt good about it and would do it again. I was shocked by the judgment I faced over hair lol. People all of a sudden thought my sexual orientation changed. It’s really silly. And what would it have mattered if it did? I didn’t change with the buzz of a buzzer. A few years before that I pierced my eyebrow. People criticized me. I loved it. I’m glad I did it. It was my expression. My style is dependent on my mood. It changes from day to day. Our image doesn’t always represent our core. That’s a small minded way of thinking. If you judge a book by its cover you’re likely to be disappointed. Apparently that made me “controversial.” Well.. cool.. I accept the title. I wear it like a badge of honor. It’s eye opening to see what others go through. We should all try to be more accepting. We don’t have to agree or like it. We come into this world the same and we exit the world the same. I didn’t know being a good person came with all these restrictions? Who’s rules are these? Lol. Not mine. We should love our layers. I’ll forever be the Controversial Girl Next Door. Aren’t we all a little controversial?”

Now for a taste of “Drunk On Me… “He tastes like the men I’ve met in my  past / Like Jose, Jim (and) Jack / Lighting me up like an old cigarette / And I keep on coming back /  He drives my heart like he stole it / Young, reckless and free / One hell of a ride and I’m outta my mind / But I love when he’s drunk on me.” Check it out below!
