ALBUM REVIEW: The Grahams “Riverman’s Daughter”

TheGrahams-GotCountryOnline

Ever wonder what a beautiful painting would sound like as a song? Listen to Riverman’s Daughter, the title track on The Grahams debut album, which is scheduled to be released on February 4. The Grahams, Alyssa and Doug, didn’t just join hands in holy matrimony, they’ve done so musically too.

Down 2,500 miles, from Minnesota to Louisiana, along the Mississippi River’s Great River Road, they traveled, hearing first hand European folk music rhythms and chants from Africa that have fused to form bluegrass, Americana, folk and country blues. Their song lyrics are the stories they heard and lived during their journey. Riverman’s Daughter is like the gathering of the painter’s ‘tools’ (remember my review started with my comparing a song to a painting).

The Grahams love for all music, from the Woodstock era, Neil Young, Emmylou, Jerry Garcia, Johnny Cash, The Carter Family, and Mississippi John Hurt, is heard throughout the album. Enjoy “Carrying The Torch“, “Cathedral Pines“, “The Piney River“, … just listen  😀
