Toby Keith Releases Cover Art For ‘Bullets In The Gun’

Toby Keith’s fifteenth full-length studio album Bullets In The Gun will also be available as a Deluxe Edition upon its October 5 release, adding four live tracks to the standard album.

Recorded during his “Incognito Bandito” show at The Fillmore in Manhattan, the four songs feature the Norman resident on lead vocals backed by an A-list band of session players assembled exclusively for the rare club performance. Johnny Paycheck’s “11 Months And 29 Days,” Waylon Jennings’ “I’ve Been A Long Time Leaving (But I’ll Be A Long Time Gone),” Roger Miller’s “Chug-A-Lug” and Gordon Lightfoot’s “Sundown” are the additions.

Those recordings bring the Deluxe Edition’s track list to 14. The Oklahoma native produced the album, joined by Mills Logan and Kenny Greenberg for the live session. He also wrote or co-wrote all 10 new songs, six with Bobby Pinson, one with Scotty Emerick and Dean Dillon and the title track with Rivers Rutherford. Toby also wrote two songs by himself, including the lead single “Trailerhood,” which is shooting quickly to the top of the charts.

Jake Owen Has Some New Ink

Jake Owen recently got a new tattoo.  New country artist Tyler Reeve posted pictures of the tattoo in progress on his Facebook and Twitter pages and wrote,

Jake Owen getting his new tattoo… On a whim- after a few beers – on our way to (dinner).

The name of the tattoo according to Tyler’s posts is “The Tennessee Stars.”  It is a blue circle with three stars from the Tennessee state flag on the inside of his right forearm.  Jake also has a red “W” on his other forearm which stands for country music icon Waylon Jennings.

Jason Boland And The Stragglers to Play Nashville’s Exit In Saturday, June 12

Catch Jason Boland And The Stragglers live in Nashville Saturday, June 12 at the Exit In.  The group is constantly on the road and are touring now in support of their latest album, the live “High In The Rockies”, which entered the Billboard Country charts at #27 after its 4/20 release.

The group is fronted by singer-songwriter-guitarist Jason Boland.  They have independently released five studio albums and two live discs including 2010’s “High In The Rockies: A Live Album”. They have sold 200,000 albums while amassing critical acclaim for their distinctive, hard-charging brew of country and rock with roots in artists like Waylon Jennings. Their most recent studio album is 2008’s “COMAL COUNTY BLUE”, which was Boland’s first release on his own label, Proud Souls Entertainment, in conjunction with the Apex Nashville label and Thirty Tigers distribution.  ”COMAL COUNTY BLUE” was one of 2008’s most successful independent country releases, debuting #2 on the Billboard National Heatseekers chart, #30 Billboard Country Albums, and #1 iTunes country albums, as well as their first debut on the Billboard 200 at #159.  In a review in the Austin Chronicle (November 2008), Doug Freeman wrote: “…When he sings of a rough, raw hope on songs like “Bottle By My Bed”, it cuts deep with genuine experience. The Okie turned Texan’s fifth studio LP opens applying that same defiant bootstrap mentality to the hurricane-hit Gulf behind a low, Waylon Jennings gruffness on “Sons And Daughters Of Dixie“, and there’s a touch of classic David Allen Coe on the dark barroom ballad “Something You Don’t See Everyday“. Yet Boland also has a polish in his approach…on tunes such as ‘No Reason Being Late’ and ‘Alright,’ his hard drawl working best on subtle, hard-luck realizations like the title track.” Onstage, Jason Boland and The Stragglers tear it up, prompting writer Sam Gazdziak to note in his November 2009 review (The9513.com): “This concert was a perfect antidote for anyone who’s become frustrated by the lack of balance in mainstream country music, and a reminder that country doesn’t need pop or rock elements to still kick ass.”

If you’re in Nashville next Saturday, go give them a listen!

Randy Houser Gears Up For Sophomore Album

Randy Houser will release his 12-track sophomore studio album, They Call Me Cadillac, on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 on Show Dog-Universal Music. The release follows his critically-acclaimed 2008 debut Anything Goes, an album that positioned him as one of the top new artists to emerge in the format, with its Top 5 smash “Boots On” earning him Country Aircheck’s No. 1 most played New Artist of 2009 honor.

“I put my heart into this record,” says Houser. “We went into the studio with a direction in mind, conceptually, for the album, and the result is something I’m really proud of. I think people are ready to hear real country music again, and I’m one of them.”

“Real country music” is a sentiment that has been echoed by critics like Los Angeles Times’ Randy Lewis who wrote Houser adds “grit to the genre” and Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Chuck Yaraborough who went on to draw comparison to one of country’s most famous traditionalists stating that Houser is “reminiscent of the late, great Waylon Jennings”—a resemblance that he is proud to convey. In fact, Houser will lend his vocals to The Waylon Project honoring Jennings later this year performing “I’m a Ramblin’ Man.”

With the backbone of Cadillac focusing on his roots, Houser delivers tunes that are a continuation of rich lyrical hits like “Anything Goes,” his debut single which catapulted into the Top 20 after an appearance on Late Show with David Letterman. His current single “I’m All About It” from the forthcoming release is a simple, fun, self-penned cut that spotlights the way a woman can make a man feel. It’s a song that Houser wrote a few years ago and specifically recorded to be the lead single from the album. It joins supremely country songs like “Man Like Me” and rocking, toe-tapping “Whistlin’ Dixie,” a tune that has already generated over 100,000 in digital single sales.

Cadillac’s dynamic track list includes contributions from writers such as Brice Long, who also penned Houser’s debut single and title track, “Anything Goes,” along with Mark D. Sanders contributing to the current single, “I’m All About It” (writer for “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack). Womack subsequently sings the background vocals on “Addicted.” The album was produced by Cliff Audretch and Mark Wright.

They Call Me Cadillac Track List:
1 “Lowdown and Lonesome”
2 “They Call Me Cadillac”
3 “Addicted”
4 “Man Like Me”
5 “Will I Always Be This Way”
6 “Out Here In The Country”
7 “I’m All About It”
8 “Here With Me”
9 “Whistlin’ Dixie”
10 “Somewhere South Of Memphis”
11 “If I Could Buy Me Some Time”
12 “Lead Me Home”

Recently dubbed “a crowd pleaser” by the New York Times, Houser will make a series of appearances in support of the new album before joining Gary Allan on the “Get Off on the Pain” Tour commencing later this fall with good friend Jerrod Niemann. Known to many as a road warrior with outlets like Pollstar dubbing him “the affable live performer who put[s] on that marathon show,” Houser is well on his way to logging over 150 dates in 2010 including a performance at CMA Music Fest’s LP Field on June 12.

Houser is currently nominated for the 2010 CMT Music Awards’ fan voted Nationwide® On Your Side® Award that is given to the top new country music star. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena beginning at 8:00 p.m., ET/PT during the CMT Music Awards broadcast.
