When Howard Cohen of The Miami Herald called Little Big Town’s new album The Reason Why, “country’s album of the year for 2010,” he sensed a landmark release in the making. According to Soundscan’s album sales chart, there’s no doubt his inkling was right. The band is celebrating their fourth studio album’s, The Reason Why, debut this week at #1 on the Billboard Albums Chart and #5 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart across all genres with 41,940 albums sold– making The Reason Why the highest debuting album of the country band’s career. In addition, the band is celebrating a 2010 CMA Awards nomination in the Vocal Group of the Year category–marking Little Big Town’s eighth nomination and fifth in that category from the prestigious organization.
“This will be a week we never forget,” says Karen Fairchild, “and we owe that to the incredible fans, country radio, and our new label Capitol Records.” “We are so blessed to have our album debut at the top of the charts, and to have news of this nomination in the same week is just amazing,” adds Kimberly Schlapman.
The group, which consists of Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman and Jimi Westbrook, co-produced the The Reason Why alongside Wayne Kirkpatrick and co-wrote eight of the 12 tracks.
The band launched their new album in Chicago with a sold-out album release party at Joe’s Bar and then in New York City with performances on ABC’s Good Morning America and FOX News Channel’s Fox and Friends “All American Concert Series,” with additional appearances throughout the week. With no intention to slow down, the band will continue to make appearances in support of the new album with a performance at the New York State Fair on Sept. 2 before rejoining Sugarland on The Incredible Machine Tour on Sept. 3 at State College, PA’s Bryce Jordan Center.

Little Big Town’s 4th annual Ride for the Cure on July 11 raised more than $55,000 for the T.J. Martell Foundation. Funds raised go to support cancer research at the Frances Williams Preston Laboratories at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
“We are thrilled with the turn out for this year’s Ride for the Cure,” said Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town in a statement. “It was our biggest ride yet. The T.J. Martell Foundation is close to all of our hearts and we are so lucky to be able to support such an amazing cause so we can find a cure.”
The event included a motorcycle ride from the Tin Roof in Nashville to the Harley-Davidson Superstore in Columbia, pre and post show performances from Little Big Town, Luke Bryan, Randy Houser, Josh Thompson, The Band Perry and others, and an auction featuring items from Zac Brown Band, Keith Urban, Jamey Johnson, Lady Antebellum and Eric Church

Little Big Town just wrapped up the Country Throwdown tour, and although the tour hit a few rough spots due to poor ticket sales, Kimberly Schlapman and the rest of the group are hopeful that the tour will become a recurring event.
“It was such a great tour. There was so much music!” Kimberly told The Boot. “It will hopefully be an annual tour. It’s kind of like a traveling CMA Music Fest. It starts earlier in the day with the songwriter’s stage. They had some incredible songwriters from Nashville who play songs that you’ve heard on the radio and new songs that they’ve written. Then as the day goes on there’s more and more music. It was an amazing experience!”
Next up Little Big Town will be heading back on the road with Sugarland. Last time they toured together they ended up recording “Life in a Northern Town” with Sugarland and Jake Owen. Kimberly tells The Boot,
“We’ve heard [talk] of some ideas of doing another collaboration together. Hopefully there will be some of that going on. That would be fun for the fans to look forward to, and that’s always fun for us as well.”
Little Big Town will join the Incredible Machine tour next month.
