Gretchen Wilson Joins Campaign To Promote GEDs

Gretchen Wilson is joining a national public service campaign run by the Advertising Council and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. The series of ads promote the GED diploma among people who did not complete high school and are now in their mid to late 20s.

Wilson will appear in ads, which stress the benefits of obtaining a GED diploma, including better career prospects and confidence for those who get them.

“People need the right tools to succeed, and, at the very minimum, a major tool on the road to success is a high school diploma or GED,” Wilson said. “This campaign will go a long way toward educating people on how to take that first step to make a difference in their lives and the lives of their families, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

The singer dropped out of school in the eighth grade and received her GED twenty years later at 34 and has since promoted adult literacy. She has also campaigned for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and for national obesity education.

Blake Shelton To Host First NRA Country Clay Shoot During CMA Fest To Benefit Flood Relief

The National Rifle Association has announced that all proceeds from NRA Country’s first annual charity sporting event, hosted by one of country music’s top vocalists Blake Shelton, will benefit Middle Tennessee flood relief efforts through The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. NRA Country and Blake Shelton will host the inaugural sporting clay shoot held in conjunction with the CMA Music Festival on June 10, 2010 at the Tennessee Clay Target Complex from 8:00 am – 1:30 pm.

“While NRA Country has some of the biggest names in country music at this shoot, people will soon realize that along with their marquee names, these are folks with the biggest hearts. There are still many with urgent needs. That is why every cent raised during this inaugural shoot will go toward helping provide relief,” said Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association.

“I am honored that I get to be part of NRA Country’s inaugural clay shoot, and that the National Rifle Association has pledged all proceeds from the event to aid Middle Tennessee flood relief efforts,” said Shelton. “This is what is great about CMA Music Festival. We get to do something we love to do, with our fans, and help raise awareness for a worthy cause while having a great time.”
Nashville-based nonprofit The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee responds in times of disaster to connect generosity with need. The Community Foundation is accepting financial contributions for flood relief to the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund and is making grants from the fund to nonprofits throughout Middle Tennessee supporting relief and restoration. Funds strategically address immediate and long-term needs as they emerge and evolve and as Nashville and Middle Tennessee rebuild from the floods.

Celebrity captains will lead teams of 4 shooting participants in the team competition event. Celebrities confirmed to attend the event include Trace Adkins, Rodney Atkins, John Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Justin Moore, Josh Thompson, Chuck Wicks and a few additional surprise guests. Team sponsorships start at $2000, which covers the cost of competition, lunch and an awards reception.  The annual sporting clay shoot is a private event and will not be open to the public.

John Rich and Gretchen Wilson Signing Autographs During CMA Fest

John Rich and Gretchen Wilson have announced they will be signing autographs at The Stonehouse at Fontanel on the grounds of The Fontanel Mansion & Farm next week. John will be greeting fans on Friday, June 11, 2010 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., and Gretchen will be signing autographs on Saturday, June 12 from noon – 1:00 p.m. Less than 15 minutes from downtown Nashville, The Stonehouse at Fontanel is located at 4225 Whites Creek Pike. The events are free and open to the public.

The Fontanel Mansion and Farm officially opens to the public on Monday, June 7, 2010. While on site, visitors can dine at the Farmhouse Restaurant at Fontanel, take a two-mile hike through The Trails at Fontanel or take advantage Nashville’s first and only country music mansion tour.

Only minutes from downtown but miles from ordinary, The Mansion at Fontanel boasts three stories, over 20 rooms, thirteen bathrooms, five fireplaces, two kitchens, an indoor pool and even an indoor shooting range, on almost 140 acres of pristine land. The home has been filled to the brim with photos, memorabilia and personal items from the period when the Mandrell family lived there. Additionally, the personal collections of current owners Dale Morris and Marc Oswald are featured which include one of a kind items, personal photos, and keepsakes of the artists they currently manage, including Alabama, Kenny Chesney, Big & Rich, Gretchen Wilson and many others. But make no mistake, this is not a museum.  At Fontanel, visitors get to do more than just look; guests can touch, see, feel and relax in this magnificent home.

A tour of the Mansion is guided in small groups room by room, with amazing sights, special stories and maybe even some music around every corner!  Tour guides escort guests from the moment they walk into the front door through the entire 27,000 SF home starting in the Great Room and ending in the glorious sunlit pool atrium.  There guests can grab refreshments and relax as long they wish, discussing the experience of Fontanel with experts and fellow visitors.
